Over the past few weeks, many homeowners and businesses across Spokane have been asking the same question: What happened to Hurliman Heating & Air Conditioning?
For decades, Hurliman was one of Spokane’s most recognized HVAC companies. Founded by John Hurliman, the business built a strong reputation for quality workmanship and long-standing customer relationships throughout Spokane
In recent weeks, however, the company appears to have abruptly shut down operations, leaving many employees, customers, and subcontractors searching for answers and trying to determine what comes next.
At Cline’s Heating & Air Conditioning, we want to share what we know, support those affected, and help the Spokane community navigate this difficult situation.
A Difficult Situation for Hurliman Employees and Customers
In the days following the closure, several former Hurliman employees reached out to our team. Many shared deeply upsetting stories about the uncertainty they were facing.
Some reported issues involving bounced paychecks and cancelled health insurance benefits. Others raised concerns about deductions that may not have been properly handled. We have also heard concerns involving unpaid union dues and subcontractor payments connected to commercial projects.
Because many of these reports are still being sorted out, we want to be careful and respectful in how we speak about them. What is clear is that the ripple effect has impacted many hardworking people in Spokane.
These are technicians, dispatchers, installers, office staff, and support professionals who simply want to work, provide for their families, and continue serving the community.
One of the former employees we recently hired is just 22 years old and had moved into her first home the week before the closure. Others have been worried about paying their mortgage, rent, utilities, and day-to-day bills.
For many families, this situation has been more than a business closure. It has been a personal and financial disruption.
Hurliman Customers Left With Unanswered Questions
We have also heard from Spokane-area homeowners and businesses who say they were left with incomplete projects or prepaid services when operations stopped.
Some customers have reported situations involving:
- Deposits paid for HVAC projects that had not yet started
- Prepaid maintenance plans or service agreements
- Scheduled work that was never completed
- Questions about service for systems previously installed by Hurliman
If you are one of these customers, you are not alone. Many people across Spokane are currently trying to understand their options and determine the best next step.
Cline’s Heating & Air Conditioning Steps in to help
Helping our community is one of the reasons we are in business.
At Cline’s Heating & Air Conditioning, we believe in a simple principle:
“People over Profit and We over Me “
Rather than stand by while skilled professionals and longtime customers were left in a difficult position, we decided to act quickly.
Over the past two weeks, we have met with former Hurliman employees, listened to their stories, and offered opportunities to qualified team members who wanted to keep working and serving Spokane homeowners and businesses.
So far, we have:
- Hired seven former Hurliman employees
- Welcomed additional technicians starting this week and next week
- Invested in new service vans, laptops, iPads, and uniforms to help get them back to work quickly
Many of the trusted technicians, sales professionals, and office staff Spokane customers already know are now part of the Cline’s team, including Shawna, Dan, John, Darrin, Cameron, Ray, and Keely, with more joining as the transition continues.
Our goal is simple: help good people get back to doing what they do best and provide stability for customers who need reliable HVAC service.
If You Were a Hurliman Customer
If you were previously a Hurliman customer and now need assistance, Cline’s Heating & Air Conditioning would be honored to help.
We are doing everything we can to support customers who may have been affected by the shutdown.
You may want to contact us if you:
- Paid for HVAC work that was never completed
- Purchased a prepaid maintenance plan

Please call our office and ask for Shawna, who previously worked with Hurliman customers and understands many of the concerns people are facing right now. Honoring the Legacy of John Hurliman
John Hurliman built one of Spokane’s most respected HVAC companies. For many people in the region, his name became associated with quality service, trust, and long-term customer care.
That is part of what makes this situation so painful for the employees, customers, and community members connected to that legacy.
At Cline’s Heating & Air Conditioning, our intention is not to add to the negativity. Our goal is to support the people affected, provide reliable solutions, and help move the Spokane community forward in a positive direction.
The Spokane HVAC community is strong. When local businesses step up, support people, and do the right thing, it makes a real difference.
