Know the Signs

Common Furnace Problems We Fix in Spokane

Furnace Won't Turn On

The thermostat calls for heat but nothing happens, or the blower runs and the burners never light. It's usually a cracked igniter, a failed control board or a tripped safety switch. We test the full startup sequence, replace the failed part and confirm a complete heating cycle.

Furnace Blowing Cold Air

Often a dirty flame sensor shuts the burners off seconds after they light. A limit switch tripped by a clogged filter or a blocked condensate drain can do the same. We clean or replace the sensor, check airflow and clear the drain so it doesn't come back next week.

Short Cycling

The furnace runs a few minutes, shuts off, then starts again. That wears out parts and raises your Avista bill. We measure temperature rise and static pressure to find overheating, then test the pressure switch, flame sensor and thermostat location.

Banging, Squealing or Grinding

A bang at startup can mean delayed ignition. Squealing or grinding usually points to a worn blower or inducer motor bearing. We clean the burners, run a combustion check and replace worn motors before they fail completely.

Weak Airflow or Cold Rooms

If some rooms never warm up, a failing blower motor or capacitor, a clogged filter or a duct restriction is often to blame. We check motor amperage, capacitor readings and static pressure to pinpoint the cause.

Frozen or Blocked Vent Pipes

High-efficiency furnaces vent through PVC pipes that snow and ice can block, which locks the furnace out. We clear and inspect the venting and condensate system, then fix whatever caused the lockout.

How It Works

How Our Furnace Repair Works

1. Diagnose and Safety Check

Your technician watches the furnace run through a full heating cycle and checks the filter, airflow, wiring, venting and error codes. We also look for safety issues like a damaged vent pipe or a cracked heat exchanger.

2. Approve the Price, Then We Repair

You get a flat-rate price before any work starts, and it doesn’t change if the job runs long. Common repairs include igniters, flame sensors, capacitors, motors, switches and control boards.

3. Test and Confirm

We run complete heating cycles to confirm the furnace lights, stays lit, moves air and shuts down correctly. If we spot anything else, we’ll show you and let you decide.

Pricing and Options

How Much Does Furnace Repair Cost in Spokane?

The price depends on what failed. A flame sensor, igniter or capacitor is usually a smaller repair than a blower motor, inducer motor or control board, and high-efficiency furnaces use more specialized parts. What doesn’t change the price is the time of day: we charge the same at midnight on a Sunday as on a Tuesday afternoon. You’ll always approve a flat-rate price before we start.

Repair or replace? Age alone doesn’t decide it. Already have a replacement quote? We’re happy to give you a second opinion, and if replacement is the better value, see our furnace installation options.

Repair Usually Makes SenseReplacement Is Worth Considering

Questions

Furnace Repair FAQs for Spokane Homeowners

Yes. Cline's answers calls 24/7 and provides same-day emergency furnace repair in Spokane, Spokane Valley and North Idaho, including nights, weekends and holidays. There's no extra charge for after-hours service. Call 509-443-6146 and we'll get a technician on the way.

It depends on what failed. A flame sensor, igniter or capacitor is usually a smaller repair, while a blower motor, inducer motor or control board costs more. We diagnose the problem first and give you a flat-rate price to approve before any work begins, and the price is the same any time of day.

Make sure the thermostat is set to Heat and a few degrees above room temperature, with fresh batteries. Check the furnace service switch and your breaker, and replace the filter if you can't see light through it. On high-efficiency furnaces, clear snow or ice from the white PVC vent pipes outside. If it still won't heat, call us.

First, check that the thermostat fan is set to Auto, not On. If it still blows cold, the most common causes are a dirty flame sensor, a failed igniter, a limit switch tripped by a clogged filter, or a blocked condensate drain or vent pipe. A technician can test the ignition sequence to find which one it is.

That's short cycling. It's usually caused by overheating from a dirty filter or blocked vents, a faulty flame sensor or pressure switch, or a thermostat near a heat source. Short cycling wears parts out quickly and raises your energy bill, so have it checked before it turns into a bigger repair.

Sometimes. If it's a single, inexpensive part and the heat exchanger and venting are sound, a repair can make sense. Furnaces in the 15- to 20-year range that need repairs every winter, or that have a cracked heat exchanger, are usually better replaced. We'll give you an honest recommendation either way.

Leave your home immediately with everyone inside. Don't flip switches or use anything that could spark. From a safe distance, call 911, then Avista at (800) 227-9187. Once responders say it's safe, Cline's can inspect and repair your furnace.

Yes. We repair all major brands, including Carrier, Bryant, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and York, no matter who installed them. You don't need to be an existing Cline's customer to call for repair.
