See smoke or smell burning?

Turn the system off at the thermostat. If there’s smoke or fire, leave the area and call 911 first. Don’t keep resetting the breaker. Once it’s safe, call us to inspect the system.

Know the Signs

Signs Your AC Needs Repair

AC Blowing Warm Air

Air moves but it isn't cold. Common causes are a failed capacitor or contactor, an outdoor fan that stopped, a refrigerant leak or a compressor problem. We test each part of the system to find which one it is.

AC Won't Turn On

Nothing happens when the thermostat calls for cooling. It's often a thermostat or wiring issue, a tripped breaker, a failed contactor or a safety switch triggered by a full drain pan.

Ice on the Lines or Coil

Ice usually means restricted airflow or a refrigerant problem. Turn the cooling off and call us. Don't chip the ice away, since that can puncture the coil.

Water Around the Indoor Unit

A clogged condensate drain, cracked pan, failed condensate pump or frozen coil can leak water near the furnace or air handler. Catching it early limits water damage.

Short Cycling

The AC runs a few minutes, shuts off, then starts again. Restricted airflow, a weak capacitor, low refrigerant or an oversized system can all cause it, and it wears parts out fast.

Strange Noises or Smells

Grinding or squealing points to worn motor bearings, buzzing to an electrical part, and rattling to a loose panel or fan. A burning smell means turn it off and call us.

Before You Call

5 Quick Checks When Your AC Stops Cooling

  1. Thermostat: set to Cool, a few degrees below room temperature, with fresh batteries.
  2. Breakers: check the breaker for the outdoor unit and the switch at the furnace. If a breaker trips again after one reset, leave it off and call us.
  3. Filter: if you can’t see light through it, replace it. A clogged filter can freeze the coil.
  4. Outdoor unit: clear cottonwood, leaves and grass clippings from around the condenser.
  5. Ice: if you see ice on the copper lines, turn the cooling off and call us. Don’t chip it away.

Still not cooling?

If those checks don’t fix it, it’s time for a technician. We’ll test the system, find the cause and give you a price before any work starts.

How It Works

How Our AC Repair Works

1. Diagnose the Real Cause

We start with what you’ve noticed, then test the thermostat, electrical parts, airflow, drainage and refrigerant circuit. The goal is to find the failure, not swap parts until something works.

2. Approve the Price, Then We Repair

You get the price before any work starts. If replacement deserves a look, we’ll explain why and give you a separate quote to compare.

3. Test and Confirm

We run the system through full cooling cycles and check temperatures, airflow and drainage. If we spot anything else, we’ll show you and let you decide.

Pricing and Options

How Much Does AC Repair Cost in Spokane?

The price depends on what failed. A capacitor, contactor or clogged drain is usually a smaller repair than a fan motor, a refrigerant leak or a compressor. We diagnose the system first and give you the price to approve before any work begins.

Repair or replace? Most central air conditioners last 10 to 15 years. A common rule of thumb is to consider replacement when a repair costs about half the price of a new system. If replacement is the better value, see our AC installation options.

Repair Usually Makes SenseReplacement Is Worth Considering
Age Under about 10 years old 10 to 15+ years old

It depends on what failed. A capacitor, contactor or clogged drain is usually a smaller repair, while a fan motor, refrigerant leak or compressor costs more. We diagnose the system first and give you the price to approve before any work begins.

Yes. Most parts we install come with a 1-year warranty, and our workmanship is guaranteed for 30 days. Cline's Club members get a 90-day labor warranty, and VIP members also get a 1-year parts warranty.

Check that the thermostat is set to Cool and the filter is clean. If it still blows warm, common causes are a failed capacitor or contactor, an outdoor fan that stopped, a dirty or frozen coil, or a refrigerant leak. A technician needs to test the system to tell which one it is.

That's short cycling. It's usually caused by restricted airflow, a weak capacitor, low refrigerant, a thermostat problem or an oversized system. It wears parts out quickly, so have it checked before it turns into a bigger repair.

Turn the cooling off at the thermostat and call us. Ice usually means restricted airflow or a refrigerant problem. Don't chip the ice away or use heat on it, since that can damage the coil.

Usually a clogged condensate drain, a cracked drain pan, a failed condensate pump or a frozen coil. Turn the system off if water is near electrical parts, and call us to clear the drain and find the cause.

Repair usually makes sense when the system is under about 10 years old and one part failed. Consider replacement if it's 10 to 15 years old or more, needs repairs every summer, uses R-22 refrigerant, or the repair costs about half the price of a new system. We'll give you an honest recommendation.

Yes. We repair all major brands of central air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits, no matter who installed them.
